Welcome to my online office. I practice tax and charity law with a particular emphasis on charities and not-for-profits with Drache LLP in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Many people are confused by the combination of tax and charity law thinking that as charities and not-for-profits are non-taxable entities it is odd that a charity lawyer would also practice tax law. However, the bulk of the federal legislation dealing with charities is contained within the Income Tax Act. So, it is important for charities and not for profits to have a lawyer experienced in the Income Tax Act.

My practice provides charities and not-for-profits with advice on how to handle a range of issues, including structuring of donations, disbursement quota issues, registration issues and disputes at all levels and resolving disputes with the CRA whether that be at the CRA level or at the court level. I also help international organizations establish a base in Canada through the creation and registration of a charity of Canadian Friends of groups. I believe that a lawyer should provide more than just dependable legal advice, your lawyer must also provide quality client service. This means, giving you the best value for the work I do for you even if it means discounting my fees.
